What is an accelerator for women founders?

An accelerator for women founders is a short program that helps women building a company get to customers, revenue or funding faster. You join a small group of founders, called a cohort, for a set number of weeks, with live coaching and a clear end date. Some take a share of your company. Others charge a fee.

What does an accelerator for women founders do?

Not every accelerator is built for women founders. Most programs were set up around one path: raise money from investors, fast. The advice inside them follows that path, whether or not it fits your company.

An accelerator for women founders is built around the women in the room. The group is small, the people in it are at a similar stage, and the program ends on a set date. Most run for a few weeks to a few months.

Inside one, you can expect:

  • Live sessions with coaches or experts, often every week.
  • A cohort of founders working on the same kind of problem at the same time.
  • Homework between sessions, like customer calls or building one part of your product.
  • Perks from partner companies, like credits for software you already need.
  • A finish line, like a demo day, signed pilots or your first paying customers.

What should women founders look for in an accelerator?

On our calls with founders, the same five things come up again and again. Use them as a checklist before you apply anywhere.

  • Founders at your stage. Founders tell us they want a small circle to share questions and doubts with. If you already have a working product, you do not want to spend weeks redoing the basics.
  • A finish line you can count. Look for a program that ends in paying customers, signed pilots or letters of intent, not just a finished app.
  • Real technical help, past the front end. Non-technical founders get stuck on the back end, security and compliance (like HIPAA) more than on the screens. Ask who helps with that, and how.
  • A schedule that fits your life. Many founders have a job or kids. Ask how many live hours there are each week, what time they run, and how much work happens between them.
  • A price and terms you understand. Ask if the program takes equity, what it charges, and what happens when it ends. You should be able to explain the deal in one sentence.

Do accelerators for women founders take equity?

Some do and some do not. Equity is a share of your company. When a program takes equity, it owns part of what you build, forever.

Y Combinator is the best-known example of the equity model. It invests $500,000 in each company: $125,000 for 7% of the company, plus $375,000 on a second agreement that turns into more ownership when you raise your next round.

Programs that take no equity make money another way. Here is how the main types compare:

  • Equity accelerator

    What you give:
    A share of your company
    What you get:
Cash investment, coaching and investor intros
    Best for:
Founders who plan to raise from investors
  • Fee-based accelerator

    What you give:
    A one-time or monthly fee
    What you get:
Coaching and a cohort, and you keep 100% of your company
    Best for:
Founders who want help without giving up ownership
  • Sponsored accelerator

    What you give:
    Your time, and an application
    What you get:
A free program paid for by a company, university or nonprofit
    Best for:
Founders who fit the sponsor's focus, like a city or an industry

What is the Theanna Accelerator?

The Theanna Accelerator is an accelerator for women founders who are not technical and have vibe coded a product. It demos well, but it is not ready for paying customers yet. The program closes that gap.

Here is how it works, in plain numbers:

  • Six weeks of live sessions, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12:00 to 1:30pm ET.
  • 8 founders per cohort, so every founder gets feedback on their own product.
  • $2,999 one time, and 0% equity. You keep 100% of your company.
  • Two tracks: one on customers (who to sell to, outreach, a pipeline) and one on building (your stack, getting your product ready for real customers).
  • Monthly cohort meetups for twelve months after, on the $199/mo Theanna Connector tier. Your first month is included, and you can cancel anytime.
  • The next cohort starts Tuesday, January 12, 2027. The waitlist hears first when applications open, with 10% off.

How do you choose the right accelerator?

  1. 01

Write down what you need in six weeks

One sentence. For example, "My first five paying customers" or "A product I can safely charge for." If a program cannot get you closer to that, skip it.

  2. 02

Check the stage it is built for

Read who the program says it is for. If it is built for pre-idea founders and you already have a product, you will spend weeks going backwards.

  3. 03

Ask what past founders walked away with

Ask for real outcomes from the last cohort, like customers signed or products shipped. Then talk to one or two founders who went through it.

  4. 04

    Count the hours

Add up live sessions and the work between them. Put them on your calendar before you apply, and see if they fit.

  5. 05

    Read the deal

Find out if the program takes equity, what it charges, and what happens after it ends. Ask about refunds and payment plans before you sign.

Questions founders ask

Do I need to be technical to join an accelerator for women founders?

No, many programs are built for founders who do not code. The Theanna Accelerator is made for non-technical founders who have vibe coded a product and need help making it ready for paying customers.

Will an accelerator for women founders take part of my company?

Some will and some will not, so read the deal before you apply. Equity accelerators invest money for a share of your company, while fee-based programs like the Theanna Accelerator take 0% equity.

How much time does an accelerator take each week?

It depends on the program, so ask how many live hours there are and how much work happens between sessions. The Theanna Accelerator meets live on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:00 to 1:30pm ET for six weeks.
